Elementary School Opportunities

Encouraging Success as Early as Possible
Learning Leaders is a nonprofit that recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to provide sustained help in New York City public schools, mostly during the school day. Every year, up to 12,000 Learning Leaders volunteers work with nearly a quarter of a million New York City public school students throughout the five boroughs. Learning Leaders offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities across grade level, subject area, location, and time commitment.

Elementary Core Program
The majority of Learning Leader volunteers work supervised by school personnel one-on-one or with a small group of students in elementary school classrooms and libraries. Some volunteers also give general assistance to a teacher. Volunteers are asked to give a minimum of 2 hours per week. Elementary school volunteer training takes place September through May. For more information about the Elementary Core Program contact the central office at 212-213-3370 or email info@learningleaders.org. In addition to helping students with reading, math and other subjects, Learning Leaders has special programs in elementary schools. These include ArtWorks, Authors Read Aloud and Book Talk.
